Club Bye-Laws – a note from the Secretary

The Bye-Laws are in place to preserve the uniqueness, style and standards of the Club. These are updated by the Committee from time to time. Please do take time to reacquaint yourself with these Alternatively a copy is on the Club Noticeboard. Members have a responsibility to advise their guests and indeed adhere to the Bye-Laws and the staff are asked to ensure Members and guests who inadvertently transgress these are made aware accordingly.

The Club Bye-Laws that cause us the most challenges are:
4. Mobile phones; 7. Briefcases and computers; 12. Standards of dress.

In summary, mobiles and PDA’s must be on silent at all times. Overcoats, briefcases and large bags should be left at Reception or the Cloakroom. Jackets and ties are required at all times other than at breakfast until 9.30am, Monday to Friday, and Fridays from 6.00pm where smart casual becomes the norm for the weekend. However, it is preferred that gentlemen wear a jacket in the Members’ Dining Room on Friday evenings. Attire such as blue denim jeans and trainers are not permitted at any time.

Other aspects of the Bye-Laws which may be of interest to Members are:
15. Suggestion Book; 26. Signing of Guests; 29. Use of Club Table.

As ever, if you need any clarification please do not hesitate to contact the Secretary’s office.

As mentioned in the Chairman’s letter, a solid silver brooch for Lady Members is available to purchase for £45.  A voucher for £20, redeemable in the Members Dining Room will be included. Brooches may be collected from the Club on your next visit or posted for an additional charge.
